By 8 December 2014Federal, News

“Certain cobalt-containing substances are among those identified as priorities for action for the second phase of the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP). The selection of these cobalt-containing substances for action is based on the categorization process completed in 2006, and new information received as part of the first phase of the CMP. Cobalt-containing substances have been identified both domestically and internationally to be a priority for further assessment.”

As per the Government of Canada this is how Cobalt Containing Substances are used?

  • “Cobalt-containing substances are mostly used in metallurgical processes, in alloys, carbides and other hard materials found in tools and specialty metals. Cobalt-containing substances are also used in feed supplements and fertilizers, paints and coatings, plastic, rubber, and batteries.
  • Based on the most recent data, 22 cobalt-containing substances are manufactured, imported or used in Canada in significant quantities. Other cobalt-containing substances are either naturally present or formed as a by-product.”
